Across the six weeks, the 6-6.30pm slot will feature Don’t Quote Me! – A panel show in which Perrier award-winning comic, former BBC TV’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks team captain, and all round Irish comedy legend Sean Hughes presides over two teams, headed up by Andrew Maxwell and Fiona Looney. For the 1st two weeks Fiona is joined by Ireland’s hottest comedy star AL Porter. Both panels explore and dissect quotes – sometimes controversial, often offensive – across a wide range of themes, personalities and subjects designed to spark witty commentary, comic discussion and often ridiculous debate.

ABOUT COMEDY SHOWHOUSE

RTE Radio 1’s first ever comedy festival was created and developed by Sideline Productions with the support of national broadcaster RTÉ, grintageireland.com and the Broadcast Authority of Ireland. Creating a new home for Irish radio comedy was the goal, as the eight days of performance produced 18 half hours of original radio comedy recorded at The Project Arts Centre in Dublin’s Temple Bar. The live shows bring together the finest current and upcoming comedic minds in the country across a mixture of panel, sketch and presenter-led series.

Already three half-hour shows Colm O’Regan Wants a Word (in both Public and Private) and Cullivan’s Travels (a look at Ireland’s rich satirical history) have been broadcast in 2016 on consecutive Bank Holiday Mondays in May, June and August to wide acclaim.

They are available to listen back to at grintageireland.com/podcasts

STUDENT PLACEMENTS

Sideline Productions entered into an agreement with Ballyfermot College of Further Education (BCFE), to bring a group of students onto the production of COMEDY SHOWHOUSE. BCFE is one of Ireland’s most successful third-level educators in the field of media, with former students having received all manner of awards and nominations, including a series of Oscar nominations.

Through this creative initiative, supported by RTE Radio 1 and the BAI, the producers were keen that new radio production talent learnt the ropes and shaped the future of the Irish comedy/radio production. On each record day final year students from Ballyfermot College of Further Education (Radio Course) were attached to the production to boost interest and skills in the scripted comedy sector.
