The Irish Township was produced by Sideline Productions for the The Niall Mellon Township Trust and aired on RTÉ ONE in 2008.

The one-hour film was based on the annual building blitz in Freedom Park, a township in Cape Town where almost 1,400 Irish builders volunteered to build hundreds of houses in 7 days.

With critical acclaim and a TV audience close to 500,000, the documentary lead to a huge upsurge in volunteers for the next Cape Town challenge.
