Mar 2010 - NEW SIDELINE SERIES ON RTE ONE - An Cor - Starts Monday March 8th at 7.30

AN CÓR, a new 4 part series for RTE 1 TV, starts broadcast on Monday 8th March and runs till March 19th 2010 as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge. 
Many applied for AN CÓR but only 6 choirs were chosen to arrange and perform classic Irish songs from their childhood. The six choral groups come from Bray,
Presenter Fiachna O’Braonáin (from the million-selling band The Hothouse Flowers) hosts this original 4 part series as two choirs go head to head in each programme singing old traditional songs while Fiachna travels the country exploring the myths, history and the personal history of the songs including “Beidh Aonach Amárach”, “Peigín Leitir Mór” and “Baidín Fheilimi”. Only one choir from each show will win their way through to the Grand Final in The Helix Theatre where the winner receives the AN CÓR trophy and 1000 euro.
The 4 part series will be transmitted during Seachtain na Gaeilge in March 2010 and shown on RTÉ ONE from Monday 8th March at 7.30pm for 4 weeks except for episode 3 that airs at 8.30pm.

AN CÓR was commissioned for RTÉ by Mairéad Ní Nuadhain and series produced & directed by Rachael Moriarty for Sideline Productions.

John has been involved in the Cork Choral Festival for nearly 35 years and Festival Director for the last 15 years. An Arts and Music Graduate of U.C.C., John has broad ranging experience as a choral conductor, judge and lecturer. He is also noted for his commitment to community choirs and is considered Ireland's most experienced adjudicator at international level. In 2008, John was named Cork Person of the Year as a result of his work with the Cork Choral Festival.
Bláthnaid Ní Dhonnchadha
Blathnaid began her TV career as a fashion reporter on TG4's 'Sile' show, presented two series of the very popular show 'Paisean Faisean' and has recently been involved in the stations newest fashion offering 'Stil na Realt'. Born in Clare and living in Galway, Bláthnaid was a presenter of RTE One’s 2009 traditional music series 'The Reel Deal'.
Dublin-bornRónán is a prolific musician, writer and performer in both Irish and English. He has traveled throughout the world performing with many musicians including Zakir Hussein, Lisa Gerrard plus bands Dead Can Dance and of course the legendary Kíla. Rónán has recently finished a soundtrack for a three part nature series that will be broadcast on RTE spring 2010.
